Assume for the moment that you could cut material costs in half, but by so doing, production of defective product would increase from .1 percent to 10 percent. Would you do it? The answer would be no unless you were absolutely certain that the defective product would be detected and scrapped. Accurately gaging every unit of production, with UAI systems, assures that defective product will be graded out and scrapped.
