UAI industrial measurement systems include an air service to ensure reliable and accurate measurements in hostile manufacturing environments. The air service is composed of a fan/filter, air hood and hose to transfer filtered air to the transducers. The specific purpose of the air service is the following:

1. Ensure that the environmental conditions at the transducer are the same as at the target surface.
2. Protect the transducer from contamination.
3. Eliminate error from thermal noise caused by hot target surfaces

Figure 1 shows a TMS-1000, non-contact thickness system with air service. The remote air fan filter is very robust and does not require frequent filter changes. All UAI industrial TMS/DMS systems incorporate an air flow sensor to provide an alarm to the operator, if the air service needs maintenance.
