The TMS-5000 is a non-contact, ultrasonic thickness measurement system for use in hostile environments where there is airborne contamination, hot product, large environmental temperature changes and the potential for mechanical damage to the sensors. In addition, it is for applications requiring 0.001" accuracy or better. The TMS-5000 thickness system is similar to the TMS-1000 but with the double reference transducer and controller. The picture below shows the single reference bar transducer with the new patented double reference bar transducer.
The TMS-1000 measures the distance (using its own sound waves) to a single reference bar to correct for changes in the speed of sound in air. Ambient temperature changes and aging cause a slight change in the frequency of sound (waveform) causing a measurement error as much as 0.010". The TMS-5000, measures two known points in space so that if the wave form changes it won’t affect the measurement. All drift, for any reason, is eliminated. The TMS-5000 is intended for environments with moderate to heavy airborne contamination.
